October 10–11, 2026 Brooklyn, New York

Long live the independent press.

Two days of talks, workshops, and conversation on editorial design, small-press economics, and the long, slow craft of making things in print.

About

Field Notes is an annual two-day meeting for designers, editors, and the people who keep small magazines alive. Sessions are short. The audience is around two hundred. There is no expo floor.

We bring together makers from across publishing — zines, art books, regional journalism, design quarterlies — to compare notes on the work itself: the editorial decisions, the production realities, and the slow business of building a readership.

A working roster of editors, designers, and printers from independent publications across North America and Europe.
